A perfect day for rugby at Virgin Media Park in Cork saw Enniscorthy travel to Cork to take on Dolphin in a third v fourth battle.  Enniscorthy suffered a setback ahead of the match, losing captain Tony Ryan to injury during the week, but travelled determined to give a good account on the astro in what was formerly Musgrave Park.

Dolphin started strong, hitting the ground running with two early converted tries within the first 10 minutes. Enniscorthy, though, weathered the early storm and responded well, showing resilience to pull the score level. The first response came from Rhyan Whelan, who finished off an excellent backline move, straight from the coach's book of tricks. Shortly after, MJ Doyle powered over the line following some impressive forward dominance. By the 25-minute mark, the scores were tied at 14-14, and Enniscorthy appeared to be back in the game.

However, the game was to turn again soon after, as Dolphin scored almost immediately from the restart, capitalizing on a quick turnover. As the first half drew to a close, Enniscorthy suffered a hammer blow when a seemingly harmless kick bounced kindly for Dolphin, who pounced on the opportunity to score under the posts. The halftime score stood at 28-14 in favor of the hosts.

The second half began much like the first, with Dolphin taking control early on and scoring two quick tries, further extending their lead. Enniscorthy showed their spirit, however, and hit back with a superb individual effort from Tomás Stamp. The veteran second row broke from halfway, showing the pace of a winger to dot down under the posts.

Shortly after, Timmy Morrissey added another for Enniscorthy, giving hope that a comeback might still be on the cards. Unfortunately for the visitors, Dolphin responded with two more tries to seal the victory and put the game out of reach.

Despite the defeat, Enniscorthy managed to secure a losing bonus point, which keeps them right in the battle for the league. The team will regroup and prepare for a crucial home game against Clonmel this coming weekend. The match, scheduled for Saturday, 25th January at 2:30 pm at Alcast Park, is a key fixture in the race for promotion, and Enniscorthy will be hoping for a big crowd to support them in what promises to be a key game in the race for promotion.

For Enniscorthy the challenge is clear, put this result behind them, and get back on the winning train next weekend against Clonmel.
