Enniscorthy 21 Bruff 26
A home defeat to Bruff in Alcast Park on Saturday wasn’t a fatal blow for Enniscorthy, far from it in fact as they will still contest the Energia All-Ireland League Division 2C play-offs.
Ben Kidd opened the scoring for the hosts with a penalty, but the Limerick side produced a strong response as Paul Collins converted their first try.
Enniscorthy reacted in a bright manner after falling behind, with tries from Adam Gethings and Killian Creed pushing them into a 13-7 lead as they enjoyed a spell of dominance.
In a game of swaying fortunes, another try that Collins converted saw Bruff regain the advantage (14-13).
Their third try followed, but the experienced Davie Murphy dotted down at the other end to leave Enniscorthy with a slender 19-18 interval advantage.
Bruff’s determination to secure a play-off spot was evident on the restart, with their bonus point try converted before a Ben Kidd penalty brought the only response from Enniscorthy.
Enniscorthy will visit Omagh for their 18th and final group game on Saturday at 2.30 p.m., safe in the knowledge that they have knockout action to follow.
Clogher Valley top the table on 70 points, followed by Galwegians (65), Enniscorthy (54) and Bruff (54), with Tullamore trailing in fifth with 43.
